Ivory Coast Crop Outlook: Oct’21

October 15, 2021

The canopy has continued to improve this month, thanks to the already dense foliage that was produced before the summer, alongside the new leaf flushing seen these last three weeks.

The late nature of the main crop profile means that there are more pods currently in development stage, which are making higher demands on the trees than normal, effectively delaying flowering. However, the setting of the new cherelles has been above average in the past 2-3 weeks across the country, particularly in the central and northern sites.

The survival of the main crop across Ivory Coast continues to be good for the season, despite a rise in wilting which is adding pressure to the young cherelles (5-8 weeks old), especially in the central west and coastal regions.

Moreover, pests and diseases, including Black Pod, continue to be kept in check throughout most areas.

All-in-all, the main crop continues to be in-line with past volumes and on track to deliver a late wave of arrivals from mid-December on, while the mid-crop is slowly starting to form on the trees.
